Well for a newbie I prefer a reflex, a cheap one but always a reflex. The Pentax K-X is perfect for this purpose. The reason is simple. If you want to learn you also want to explore. That means that you need something that will let you play and experiment. A compact camera will always put more limitations than a reflex one.
To learn you need to understand the difference between lenses, the depth of field, lights and many more things.

If you just want a camera easy to use and ready for almost any environment the G11 is the perfect friend, but it won&#039;t let you experiment and learn as a reflex.</description>

What do you think is better for a newbie: a low profile reflex or a high compact camera like this one... Cause I&#039;m planing to buy one camera in my trip to Japan this year. The difference seems to be about 50€ (not very much, I think). Well, I have a lot of time till then to think about it. By the way, I LOVE the first one.</description>
